As the final model year of Ford's retro-styled Thunderbird—and the Thunderbird's 50th anniversary year—it represents the end of an era, and this particular example has been exceptionally well preserved. Under the hood is Ford's 3.9-liter DOHC V8 producing 280 horsepower, paired with a five-speed automatic transmission. These cars were designed from the beginning as comfortable personal luxury roadsters rather than all-out sports cars, and more than two decades later that's still exactly where they shine: V8 power, rear-wheel drive, two seats and the ability to completely change the personality of the car depending on which top you choose. The condition of this Thunderbird is exactly what you would expect from the mileage. The Evening Black paint is deep and beautiful, the Cashmere leather interior shows remarkably little use, and the steering wheel, controls, carpeting and trim have all been exceptionally well preserved. What we especially like about this car is that it hasn't been cosmetically reinvented to look like a low-mileage Thunderbird. It simply is one. The engine compartment, interior and remarkably clean underside all tell the same story as the odometer. There are lower-priced Thunderbirds available. There are also plenty with 40,000, 60,000 or 80,000 miles.
