Vehicle Description

Sometimes the most interesting vehicles aren't the ones that were built to be collectible—they're the ordinary vehicles that somehow survived long enough to become extraordinary. This beautiful 2000 Ford Explorer Limited 4x4 is a perfect example. Purchased from a private 17-vehicle collection, this Explorer has had just one owner from new and traveled only 26,000 original miles. Its CARFAX is equally impressive, showing one-owner history with no accidents or damage reported. Finished in a beautiful deep wedgewood blue metallic over a remarkably preserved tan leather interior, this was the top-of-the-line Explorer Limited of its day. More than 25 years later, it is becoming increasingly difficult to find a second-generation Explorer at all—let alone a loaded Limited that has survived in this kind of condition with this mileage. The exterior presents beautifully. The paint retains excellent depth and shine, the body is exceptionally straight, and the original Limited trim, alloy wheels, running boards, roof rack and exterior moldings remain intact and extremely well preserved. Nothing about this Explorer looks like the typical 25-year-old family SUV. The interior may be even more impressive. The original tan leather remains soft and beautiful with only the light natural creasing expected with age. The driver's seat, steering wheel, carpeting, dashboard, switchgear, console, door panels and woodgrain trim all show remarkably little use. The Limited embroidery remains crisp, and even the original retractable rear cargo cover remains in place. Heated power leather seating, automatic climate control, premium audio, overhead console and the many comfort features that made the Limited the flagship Explorer are all part of the package. Power comes from Ford's proven 4.0-liter SOHC V6, backed by an automatic transmission and Control-Trac four-wheel drive. For anyone who remembers these Explorers when they were everywhere, driving one today with only 26,000 miles is a completely different experience from the worn-out, high-mile examples most of us remember. This Explorer spent much of the period since 2019 in storage as part of the collection from which we acquired it. Rather than simply putting it on the lot after years of limited use, we had the vehicle transported to us and thoroughly recommissioned it for its next owner. It has received new Cooper tires, a new battery, engine oil and service, a replacement fuel pump, and brake service as needed. It now starts, runs and drives exactly the way a 26,000-mile Explorer should and is fully serviced and ready to enjoy. Underneath is equally honest. We have not painted or cosmetically refinished the chassis for photographs. There is normal surface oxidation on some exposed chassis and suspension components consistent with age, but the structure itself remains exceptionally solid. What you're seeing in the photographs is an honest, original underside—not fresh black paint hiding 26 years of history. The engine compartment tells much the same story, retaining its clean, stock and remarkably original appearance. Nothing has been modified or dressed up in an attempt to make the vehicle into something it isn't. And that's really what makes this Explorer so appealing. It isn't a restored collector vehicle. It hasn't been modified into a show truck. It's simply an extraordinarily well-preserved example of a vehicle that millions of Americans remember—but very few thought to preserve. One owner. 26,000 original miles. Accident-free CARFAX. Limited 4x4. Beautiful original interior. Fully serviced after long-term storage and ready to drive. Most Explorers from this era accumulated 150,000 or 200,000 miles, carried families and pets, endured winters and eventually disappeared. This one somehow didn't. For someone who owned one years ago, grew up riding in one, or simply wants an exceptionally preserved example of one of Ford's most successful SUVs, it would be difficult to duplicate this Explorer at any price.
